Mechanical Engineering MEng (Hons)

Combine numeracy with detailed subject knowledge and initiative to solve complex engineering problems that improve the world we live in.

Our course teaches you how to use physical science, mathematics and computing to assess engineering systems. You'll combine this with study in design and manufacturing processes to understand how modern industry works.

Your first two years give you a detailed understanding of mechanical engineering. You’ll learn how to incorporate design into the science, manufacturing and management elements of engineering. You can apply this knowledge to analyse, build and test a product from scratch.

At Bath, practical project work is central to your study experience. Group and individual projects are a chance for you to put theory into practice and gain experience in engineering enterprise management. You can join one of our teams to take part in international competitions such as Formula Student or the Isle of Man TT Zero.

A wide selection of optional units lets you choose where you want to specialise in your final year. These include aerospace, automotive, design, manufacturing, environmental or medical engineering.The wide-ranging engineering curriculum develops your professional skills to pursue a career in a host of industries.

Studying an MEng gives you an in-depth study experience through advanced taught units and project work, and it fulfils the educational requirements you need to become a Chartered Engineer. We also offer this course with a placement year, giving you the opportunity to gain work experience as part of your degree.

You can choose to move between any of our MEng courses or transfer from an MEng to a BEng degree up to the end of your second year. ?This empowers you to take your degree in a direction that best suits your ambitions.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

A Bachelor’s degree with a final overall result of at least a First Class.

To apply for this course you should have an undergraduate degree in psychology.

If you receive an offer you will need to obtain a Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) from the British Psychological Society (BPS).

If you do not have an undergraduate degree in psychology, we will consider applicants who have successfully completed a BPS accredited Masters's conversion degree.

In your application, you will need to provide a max. A 500-word personal statement which should explain

  • (a) why you are interested in studying for an MSc in Applied Clinical Psychology and the interests and skills you particularly hope to develop on the course and
  • (b) your research experience to date. As part of (b), you could describe key research teaching and assignments you have completed, your undergraduate dissertation project, or any research posts you have held. Please explain the skills and knowledge you have particularly gained from the research experience that you would bring to an MSc program.
