Sport Broadcast Masters - MSc/PgD/PgC

Want to work in the Sports Broadcast Industry? Then this is the course for you.

Professionally accredited by the BJTC (Broadcast Journalism Training Council) this master's degree with a practical focus, designed and delivered by sports broadcast industry professionals to create practitioners of Sport Broadcast and prepare them to be industry ready for employment in sport broadcast journalism and across the sport media industry. The master's degree course has been written in collaboration with sport broadcast journalists from the BBC, ITV, Sky Sports and the Broadcast Journalism Training Council.We teach traditional broadcast journalism for the digital, new media age. Emphasis is given to live event production, broadcast journalism and multi-platform digital storytelling.

Students will develop and master a wide spectrum of broadcast journalism production skills, learn to self-shoot and edit, record and produce audio, create digital content while sharpening their journalistic instinct, news values and editorial judgment. They will critically examine the reciprocal relationship between socio-political issues, modern media coverage and professional sport. Students will also study elements of media law, and analyse how ethics, a sense of fairness, impartiality, accuracy and a robust knowledge of regulations and rights play a crucial part in operating within the modern fast-changingsport broadcasting landscape.

When students leave us and have an interview with Sky Sports or BBC Sport, we want them to be ready. Confident they understand the industry and the broadcast regulatory landscape around it and armed with a portfolio of work to prove they can create sports content for any audience or platform. 

Our 60 credit work placement is designed to ensure that graduates of the programme have significant, hands-on, practical “real world experience” and regular engagement with the industry that will make them uniquely prepared for work in the Sport Broadcast Industry. With a focus on external facing content, and multi-media skill acquisition, together with constant academic reflection on the socio-political implications of sport and the business and marketing elements around professional sport, graduates from this programme will be able to meet the needs of a rapidly developing and expanding Sport Broadcast industry. 

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the MSc in Sport Broadcast are expected to satisfy the following requirements:

  • A good honours degree (normally 2.1 or above) in any Sport, Broadcast, Media or Journalism subject.
  • A passion for sports media and / or digital broadcast technology and a desire to find and tell fascinating sports stories.
