Master of Planning

The Master of Planning degree has been designed to equip students with the professional and scholarly education to take a leadership role in statutory town planning practice as well as policy development. The Western Sydney University Parramatta campus location in the centre of Sydney’s population growth area represents a rich urban laboratory in which to explore the most important urban issues.

The Master of Planning is a two-year course in urban and regional planning and is accredited by the Planning Institute of Australia. The course equips you with professional and scholarly education enabling you to take a leadership role in statutory town planning practice as well as policy development. It has a strong emphasis on research rooted in social sciences and in the fast growing Western Sydney region. The coursework includes learning and training in history and theory, governance, professional practice, economic development, sustainability, transport planning, spatial analysis and legal frameworks for planning.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years
