BSc (Hons) Maritime Business with foundation and industry years

Offering a holistic overview of the industry, alongside insider knowledge and understanding of the way in which this complex and dynamic industry operates, the course is designed to prepare you to make an immediate contribution in the workplace.

You will study real-world problems derived from the industry, explore the practicable applications of theoretical and technical concepts and processes, and develop an analytical approach to problem-solving – along with teamwork, managerial, and effective communication skills.

Taught by a dedicated team with a wide range of experience and knowledge, and as part of a large cohort of students from around the globe, you will develop a truly international network of professional peers and connections, along with a deep appreciation of variations in cultural and business practices.

And our annual maritime conference will help you develop your professional connections still further, bringing Solent alumni and senior professionals from the industry on campus to talk to students about their early career experiences, help develop employability, and more.

There is an optional one-year work placement option between year two and year three of the taught programme. Students are expected to find their own placement but are supported by the course team.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

As a general guide, we look for qualifications that are equivalent to the British high school A-levels. A portfolio is also required for most of our art and design courses.

To be considered for entry to a foundation year (year 0 of a foundation year), students should hold the Standard XII with 50% or above.

For postgraduate courses, we look for qualifications that are equivalent to the British bachelor's degree. Students should hold a bachelor's degree, minimum 2nd division.

Foundation year:
IELTS 5.5 overall with a minimum of 5.0 in each individual component
TOEFL IBT 71 with a minimum of 19 in in each individual component- TOEFL is only valid for EU students
or equivalent.
Undergraduate:
IELTS minimum 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component
TOEFL IBT minimum 80 with a minimum of 19 in each individual component
or equivalent.
Postgraduate:
IELTS minimum 6.5 overall with minimum of 6.0 in writing and a minimum of 5.5 in reading, listening and speaking
TOEFL IBT 92 with minimum of 22 in writing and a minimum of 19 in reading, listening and speaking
or equivalent.
