The media and creative industries are flourishing and the North West is the key digital powerhouse outside of London. Traditional career routes in areas such as film and TV continue to seek new recruits, but exciting opportunities are also available with the broad range of organisations that now need moving images for their websites, social media platforms and promotional adverts. They want people who can create new and interesting content using their great story-telling skills and sound knowledge of the production process and workflow. This course aims to prepare you for a career in this exciting sector and offers transferable employability skills such as resilience, adaptability and team-working that are highly attractive to employers.

Beginning with a foundation year designed to nurture your development of core analytical and key study skills for the creative disciplines, this creative, practical and industry-focused, this course gives you the chance to experience all aspects of the pre-production, filming and post production workflow in film, TV and multi-platform formats – before deciding which areas you want to specialise in.

Our lecturers and technical staff will support you as you develop a wide range of technical and creative skills. We’ll also encourage you to develop critical thinking skills, enabling you to challenge, question and explore the world around you and feed this into your creative work.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Foundation / Access
If you do not meet the entry requirements for Year 1 entry you may be considered for an access/foundation programme.

Undergraduate entry to year 1
60% or above at standard XII (all boards)
Successful completion of a 2 year diploma (state board or approved polytechnic)
We accept applications for entry to year 2 & 3; however these are assessed on a case by case basis.

English Language
If you do not have 60% or above in Standard XII you will be required to complete a recognised English Language qualification

Where Evidence of English Language proficiency is required, we currently accept the following qualifications for admission onto our courses at degree level or above:

GCSE/O-Level in English from a UK awarding body grade C
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 for Undergraduate (no less than 5.5 in any component)
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 for Postgraduate (no less than 5.5 in any component)
Irish Leaving Certificate Ordinary Level English grade C/C3 or above
Irish Leaving Certificate Higher Level English grade D/D2 or above
IGCSE English as a First Language grade C
IGCSE English as a Second Language grade C
Internet based TOEFL with an overall score of 72 for Undergraduate, 79 for Postgraduate including 17 in Listening, 20 in Writing, 18 in Reading and 18 in Speaking
International Baccalaureate (Standard Level grade 5/Higher Level grade 4 in English)
Cambridge Advanced English grade C (minimum of “weak” in all four components (listening, reading, speaking and writing)
