The program offers graduates a robust multi-disciplinary approach to the diverse industry that is sports and recreation management. Graduates gain business acumen through a sports and recreation lens. Graduates are prepared to identify, plan, and implement successful recreational activity programs for all ages and abilities. Graduates are able to provide leadership to health and fitness initiatives and wellness programs. This three-pronged approach to the curriculum ensures graduates are prepared for careers in the business of sport and recreation as well as the health and fitness industry.

The curriculum of this three-year advanced diploma has experiential learning opportunities integrated throughout including field placement, industry experiences, field trips, and service learning. Our students are at the forefront of providing leadership for our industry partners including the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League who are located on campus.

Leadership, teamwork, project management, research, information technology, marketing, time management, and communication are but a few skills employers in this industry are looking for when hiring. Our graduates are highly sought because they are industry ready.

Experiential Learning
Students in the Sports & Recreation Management program have a number of opportunities to gain real-world experience throughout the course curriculum. These experiences include:

Organizing events throughout the year – students from all three years of the program contribute in some aspect to the organization of these events creating varied experiences and team building opportunities
Participating in learning experiences built right into the core courses – in the 2020-2021 school year, students were running virtual leagues, hosting virtual games and interviews and creating work plans for real people and counselling them virtually
Collaborating with community partners – one example is Tourism Sarnia Lambton – as part of this collaboration, students volunteered for events, produced social media posts, and were exposed to working on event bids
Organizing virtual speaker series’ - 2020-2021 speakers included David Amber, Hockey Night in Canada & NHL Host on Sportsnet, Tara Slone from Sportsnet and host of Top of her Game and Megan Chayka co-founder of Stathletes.

Campus Information

Sarnia/Main Campus

Lambton College’s Main Campus is located in Sarnia, Ontario and the main building on-site is the South Building where the majority of the classrooms and staff and faculty offices are located. In addition to the South Building, the main campus is also home to the Suncor Sustainability Centre, the Lambton College Residence and Event Centre, the Sustainable Smart Home, the Skilled Trades Training Centre and the North Building.

You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.

If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years

We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.

For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.

If your program was 2 years or more

We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.

If you completed more than 1 program

You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed -

must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

O.S.S.D. or equivalent with:

Grade 12 English C or U

Mature applicants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of classes, be out of secondary school for at least one year and usually do not have a high school diploma. Mature applicant assessment for this program is available in the Counselling Department in the subject of English. The assessment(s) will demonstrate proficiency in required admission subjects. For more information please contact the Counselling Department at ext. 3412. Academic admission requirements can be obtained through Academic Upgrading and Pre-Programs at Lambton College.

The admissions process is competitive and meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee admission.

English Language Proficiency Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate language proficiency by submitting one of the following scores:

IELTS of 6.0;
TOEFL iBT 69; or
Passed Lambton Institute of English placement test.

Please Note: IELTS is the only proficiency score accepted by the Study Direct Stream (SDS) program. Additional country-specific requirements may also be applicable.

Meeting the minimum English requirements does not guarantee admission. Students with higher English proficiency scores will receive priority in the admission assessment process.
