Ontario College Graduate Certificate - International Training for English Teaching Professionals

The Lambton College, International Training for English Professionals 15-week, post-graduate program that provides practical classroom skills for international professionals who strive to become certified in teaching English as a Second Language in Canada or abroad.

Within a student-centred learning environment, learners use the Communicative Approach and are immersed in the strategies, theories and insight for success in various educational environments that appeals to both the experienced and novice educator. The curriculum prepares learners to teach English language skills to a diverse range of students.

Topics include introduction to teaching skills, specific strategies for teaching language skills, level assessment, evaluation and testing, methods, procedures and techniques of planning and methodology, and the creation of a successful learning environment. Proven instructional techniques are introduced through lesson demonstrations and peer teaching arrangements.

The program emphasises real-world teaching skills through a twenty-hour practicum that allows learners to apply knowledge and theory within a Canadian ESL classroom to enhance the learner’s educational experience.

Sarnia/Main Campus

Lambton College’s Main Campus is located in Sarnia, Ontario and the main building on-site is the South Building where the majority of the classrooms and staff and faculty offices are located. In addition to the South Building, the main campus is also home to the Suncor Sustainability Centre, the Lambton College Residence and Event Centre, the Sustainable Smart Home, the Skilled Trades Training Centre and the North Building.

  •    You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.

If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.

For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.

If your program was 2 years or more

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.

If you completed more than 1 program

  •    You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed -

  • must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length

A high school diploma, and/or college diploma or university degree or an acceptable combination of education and work experience as determined by Lambton College.
