Graduate Certificate of Finance and Actuarial Statistics
The Graduate Certificate of Finance and Actuarial Statistics is designed for students who wish to:
- Develop a greater understanding of financial, actuarial and statistical principles and their application;
- Gain Part II exemption status for the Institute of Actuaries;
- Improve analytical skills for interpreting and analysing financial, actuarial and statistical information;
- Gain greater insight into the Australian and international financial markets;
- Increase management skills for dealing with organisations, teams and policy issues; and,
- Expand their applied knowledge in various specialised areas of finance, actuarial studies and applied statistics.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the skills and knowledge to:
- Recognise the important role of finance, actuarial and statistical principles and their application;
- Demonstrate the necessary analytical skills for interpreting and analyzing financial, actuarial and statistical information;
- Demonstrate well developed insight into Australian and international financial markets;
- Justify and communicate the necessary management skills for dealing with organizations, teams and policy issues, so as to be able to work independently and collaboratively to collect, process, interpret and communicate the outcomes of financial, actuarial and statistical problems; and,
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to critically engage with and evaluate financial, actuarial and statistical problems.

Our Acton campus is in the heart of Canberra - Australia's capital city - in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). - Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Postgraduate research, or a higher degree by research (HDR) program, is a research-focused degree usually undertaken by someone who has completed a previous degree with a significant research component.
Postgraduate research degrees include Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil).
Eligibility
Admission to a Doctor of Philosophy degree at ANU requires:
- An Australian Bachelor degree with at least Second Class Honours - Upper (First Class Honours is often required) or its international equivalent, or
- Another degree with a significant research/thesis component that may be assessed as equivalent to paragraph (1), or
- A combination of qualifications, research publications, and/or professional experience related to the field of study that may be assessed as equivalent to paragraph (1).
Admission to a Master of Philosophy degree at ANU requires:
- An Australian Bachelor degree or higher, with an overall grade of distinction or higher, or its international equivalent, or
- Another degree that may be assessed as equivalent to paragraph (1), or
- A combination of qualifications, research publications, and/or professional experience related to the field of study that may be assessed as equivalent to paragraph (1).
- All applicants must meet the University's English language requirements for admission, noting that it is possible for you to apply without yet meeting English. In this case, if you are approved for admission, your offer would be conditional on meeting our language requirements.
A supervisor must be available at ANU willing to supervise your research before an offer may be made. If, however, you are applying to the ANU College of Business & Economics, please check with this College about their arrangements for setting up supervision.
A score of 70% or more with no section less than 65%
Academic IELTS An overall score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component of the test.
TOEFL paper based test A score of 570 with a TWE* score of 4.5.
TOEFL internet based test An overall score of 80, with a minimum of 20 in Reading and Writing and 18 in Speaking and Listening.
Cambridge CAE Advanced (Post 2015) An overall score of 176 with a minimum of 169 in all sub-skills.
PTE Academic An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 55 in each of the communicative skills.
