Bachelor in Global Studies in Human Sciences

For Global Studies in Human Sciences students, the world is their classroom. Global Studies focuses on topics such as hunger and food insecurity, community development and entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, maternal and child health, education, global markets, humanitarian aid and social policy. Key to gaining real-world experience with these and other issues, and fully understanding the diverse nature of other cultures, a minimum of one study abroad experience and a semester-long internship is required for every student enrolled in the program. In addition to the valuable lessons learned abroad and in the internship, the Global Studies curriculum teaches students to use design-thinking methodologies to develop solutions to global issues. Through this course of study, students learn the realities of globalization and how local and global issues are interconnected and develop a refined skill set that will equip them to work collaboratively with communities and organizations to improve quality of life around the world.

Global Studies graduates are prepared to step into roles in large national and multinational companies, philanthropic foundations, global and local nonprofits, as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations or pursue graduate study in fields ranging from law to public health and social entrepreneurship among others. The Global Studies interdisciplinary degree, coupled with the required minor, study abroad and internship, actively prepares students to become global citizens and empowers them to pursue their passions

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Admission to Auburn is competitive and highly selective in all majors. Therefore, international applicants, like all other students, must have an excellent academic record to be considered for admission.

Test Scores
The ACT or the SAT is required of all freshman international applicants, as well as freshman transfer applicants with less than 30 semester credit hours. Arrangements should be made for the test results to be sent directly to the Office of Admission by the testing agency.

The institution number for the ACT is 0011 and the number for the SAT is 1005.

Proficiency in the English Language
If English is not your native language you must show proof of English proficiency. To show proficiency you must:

Submit a TOEFL and/or PTE score of 79 for the internet-based test OR 213 on the new computerized test OR 550 on the written paper-based test OR a 53 on the PTE. A band score of 6.5 or better on the IELTS is also acceptable.
Graduate from a U.S. high school.

TOEFL, PTE, and IELTS scores are only considered official when they are sent to the Office of Admissions directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

Academic Transcripts
International freshman students who are attending U.S. high schools can send their transcripts directly to the Office of Admission and are not required to submit an evaluation.

All international freshman students currently attending a secondary school (high school) outside the U.S. must submit two (2) types of their official transcripts or official records.

  • An official secondary school (high school) transcript translated into English by an official translation agency.
  • The second copy will need to be sent to an independent credential evaluator. You will need to request a document-by-document evaluation (with a GPA) from one of the evaluators and make sure that a copy be sent to the Office of Admissions.

It is the student’s responsibility to have the documents translated and/or evaluated. Auburn University will not translate or evaluate your academic transcripts. High school students must send an additional transcript, including final grades, after graduation.
