Health Care Assistant (HCA) Diploma
Our 26 week full-time Health Care Assistant (HCA) Diploma Program includes 20.5 weeks of lecture and 5.5 weeks of practicum. This program equips students with hands-on laboratory skills and lecture knowledge delivered via in-class instructions, as well as real-world clinical experience acquired during the practicum. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to register with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry to become registered Health Care assistants.
Careers such as those of Health Care Assistants’ have come into high demand, as frontline care providers practice primarily with their compassionate hearts to promote the health, safety, independence, comfort, and wellbeing of the aging population. As reliable members of the healthcare team, they aid in the fundamental care of patients under the direction of physicians, nurses, and other hospital staff. In addition, Health Care Assistants are trained to provide person-centered care helping guard the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being of clients/residents who have complex health issues in protective and supportive environments

If your program was less than 8 months
- You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.
If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.
For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.
If your program was 2 years or more
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.
If you completed more than 1 program
- You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.
Each of the programs you completed -
- must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
General Admission Requirements
Our Admission requirements for the program are as follows:
High school graduate, or equivalent
- Mature Student or 19 years of age on the first day of class
- Completion of an approved English test, successful assessment by Create Career College (CCC), or completion of the CCC’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course.
- TOEFL iBT a minimum score of 80; IELTS academic a minimum score of 6
- Successful completion of Grade 12 from a Canadian High School or equivalent,
- A score of 60% on the Create Career College English Placement Test
- Completion of Create Career College’s English as Academic Purposes (EAP) EAP is a prerequisite language program designed for international students who want to enroll in academic or vocational courses at CCC or Lakeland College in Alberta
