Finding a placement
Our placement and careers teams offer the following support when it comes to researching and applying for work placements:
- Weekly e-bulletins advertising placement opportunities
- Sessions on interview skills, CV clinics, mock assessment centres and psychometric tests
- Employer drop-in sessions and careers fairs
We do allow our students to complete international work placements and to source their own placements - you do not necessarily have to find your placement via the weekly e-bulletins provided by the Careers Service. If you do source your own placement, please note that it must be approved by the School to ensure that the job role is in line with your programme of study and learning outcomes.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
GCSEs
To meet our Maths subject requirements we require GCSE Maths at Grade B or 6 or we can accept GCSE Applications of Maths and Methods in Maths - both at Grade B or 6 - if studied together in the same sitting. Please note we do not accept Applied Maths e.g. WJEC Mathematics – Numeracy.
To meet our English language subject requirements we require GCSE English Language at Grade B or 6.
Please note that we do not accept the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme to meet our GCSE Maths and English language subject requirements.
A-levels
Grades AAB. Native language A-levels are accepted. General Studies is normally accepted if one of four A-levels passed in the same sitting. In most circumstances, we will expect candidates to complete three A-levels in one sitting to demonstrate the ability to manage a high level and volume of study.
Due to the popularity of our degree programmes, preference may be given to candidates studying at least one of our preferred subjects. Please check the individual course profile pages for our list of preferred subjects, you can find this under ‘Entry requirements’.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
35 points overall with 6,6,5 in Higher Level subjects.
Students without GCSE/IGCSE Maths and English Language at grade B (or 6) will need 5 in SL Maths (or Maths Studies*) and SL English (Language A: English Language and Literature or Language A: Literature).
If Language B: English is offered at SL we would need you to achieve a 6.
*We do not currently accept Maths Studies for BSc (Hons) International Business, Finance and Economics applicants for the purposes of meeting our Maths subject requirements.
BTEC Nationals
We consider the various BTEC Nationals for entry provided you have studied a subject relevant to the chosen course.
BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma
D*D*D in the BTEC National Extended Diploma
BTEC Level 3 National Diploma
D*D in the BTEC National Diploma plus grade B at A-level
BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate
D* in the BTEC National Extended Certificate plus grades AB at A-level
Please note that we do not accept General Studies as an A-level option and we do not accept A-level subjects which are the same as your BTEC qualification.
Please note that the National Diploma and the National Extended Certificate must be studied alongside A-levels and we are unable to accept combinations of the BTEC qualification.
Access to HE Diploma
The subject of your Access to HE qualification will be taken into consideration when making a decision on your application. Please note: We only accept the Access to HE qualification when studied at a centre in the UK.
60 credits are required with 45 credits at Level 3. Of those at Level 3, a minimum of 39 credits at Distinction and 6 credits at Merit. Please note that we do not accept credits at Pass.
All applicants to the University (from the UK and Overseas) are required to show evidence of English Language proficiency. The minimum English Language requirement for this course is either:
GCSE/iGCSE English Language grade B/6, or;
IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6 in any individual component, or;
An acceptable equivalent qualification.
