Graduate Certificate in Assistive and Rehabilitative Technology

The purpose of the Assistive Rehabilitative Technology program is to educate health science, engineering, rehabilitation counseling and education professionals on the application of science and technology for improving the quality of life of individuals with disabilities.

The curriculum is designed to prepare graduate students for the Assistive Technology Professional and the Seating and Mobility Specialist certifications, which are administered by the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA); for employment opportunities within the fields of:

  • assistive technology
  • accessibility customer service
  • rehabilitation technology
  • graduate school opportunities (clinical and research)
  • job promotion/transition opportunities

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the graduate certificate must meet ONE of the following requirements to be considered for admission.

  • Eligible for admission to the Graduate School at Ohio State University as evidenced by:
    • A baccalaureate or professional degree (or equivalent foreign credential) from an accredited college or university, earned by the expected date of entry into the certificate program;
    • A minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for the last degree earned;
    • For international applicants and those who have held the status of U.S. permanent resident for less than one year from the first day of the first term of enrollment and are not currently an Ohio State graduate student, submission of TOEFL or IELTS scores.
    • Currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student in a graduate program at Ohio State University.
  • Applicants currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student in a graduate program at Ohio State University must complete a Graduate Intra-University Transfer application when available.
