Postgraduate Diploma in the Art and Science of Health Care
This Postgraduate Diploma in the Art and Science of Health Care is a post-registration programme for New Zealand registered health professionals wanting to develop advancing skills. A range of papers, are offered, with a focus on high acuity care, community practice and the interfaces between hospital and home.
You, as a health professional, will be able to develop skills of research, critical analysis, constructive synthesis and advanced practice in your discipline.
This course delivered through Blended Delivery where most of the course is done online with only a few on site classes.
Graduates will be able to develop innovative, effective, efficient and high-quality approaches to health care delivery, within the defined scope of practice. Each paper offered in the Postgraduate Diploma in the Art and Science of Health Care is equivalent to 30 credits at NZQA Level 8.
Applicants should have either a degree in a nursing or health related subject or proven evidence of Level 7 study.

Job Opportunity Potential
Graduates of this programme will articulate their scope of practice and its advancement, show expert practice working collaboratively across settings and within interdisciplinary environments, show effective leadership and consultancy, develop and influence health and socioeconomic policies and practice at a local and national level, and show scholarly research inquiry into professional practice.
Qualifications gained in the Postgraduate Diploma in the Art and Science of Health Care would be expected to focus on Advancing Clinical Practice with the graduate practising more effectively as an Advancing Practitioner, who will influence/improve the health outcomes for the population base they are involved in the care of.

Level 8 (Postgraduate Diploma)
- Duration: Equal to length of study, OR
- Up to 3 years in some cases (if part of higher qualification pathway)
Level 9 and 10 (Master’s degree and Doctoral degree)

- Condition: Must study at least 30 weeks in New Zealand
- Most eligible international students can work up to 25 hours per week during study and full-time during scheduled breaks, only if their student visa includes work rights.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- IELTS test - Academic score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6
- TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 590 (with an essay score 5.5 TWE)
- TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) - Score of 79 (with a writing score of 21)
- Cambridge English Examination - C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176. No less than 169 in each skill.
- OET- Minimum of Grade C+ or 300 in all sub-tests
- NZCEL - a) Expiring: Level 4 (Academic) b) Current: Level 4 (Academic)
- Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 58 with no band score lower than 50
- Language Cert - C1 Expert International ESOL Written (LRW) HIGH PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS or C2 Mastery International ESOL Written (LRW) PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS
