New Zealand Diploma in Screen Production (Game Design) (Level 5)

  • Gain knowledge of the business and legal issues confronting visual practitioners in visual and screen arts.
  • Develop an understanding of genres and traditions in their cultural and historical context through the history and theory of screen arts.
  • Be able to implement various software solutions to develop an understanding of how to read and use graphic imagery.
  • Acquire the knowledge to describe the structure of and write a short film.
  • Understand the origins and purpose of the traditional 12 principles of animation including practical implementation within their animation practices.
  • Effectively develop 2D animated narratives with supporting interactive content.
  • Gain a range of observational and conceptual skills, and be introduced to analytical aspects of drawing as an aid to visualising and interrogating ideas and recording practice using a variety of drawing approaches.

Job Opportunity Potential

When you complete the programme you will have the broad range of skills necessary for an industry that increasingly asks for people with a multidisciplinary approach. Depending on the specialisation chosen, you will be able to look for work in numerous roles within the Game Development and Design industries. These roles could include 2D artist, designer, animator, UI artist or Designer. The real strength of the programme is that graduates will have had some experience in many of these areas, a quality that will become increasingly important as technologies converge.

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

India 60% average across 4 academic subjects (excluding Hindi or local language). English mark should be a minimum of 60%
 
75% average across 4 academic subjects (excluding Hindi or local language). 
  • IELTS test - Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5
  • TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
  • TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) - Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14)
  • Cambridge English Examination - B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill
  • OET - Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
  • NZCEL - a) Expiring Level b) Current: a) Level 4 (General) or (Workplace) b) Level 4 (General) or (Employment)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36
