As a student of design, your job is to create an experience that is functional, beautiful, intuitive and accessible. As a communications and media student your challenge is to examine creative ideologies, a range of platforms and target audiences and develop solutions to influence change. Together these two disciplines will give you the knowledge and skills to forge a creative career full of inspiration, problem-solving and great stories.

Taught in small, more personalised classes, the course offers an individually tailored learning environment that ensures each student receives the highest level of support and encouragement throughout their UC journey.

Combine a Bachelor of Design and a Bachelor of Communications and Media at UC and you will: 

  • identify the different stages of the ‘design for manufacture’ process
  • gain the knowledge and skills necessary to launch your own interaction design business or seek employment within global markets across all industries.
  • select appropriate methods, materials and processes for designing and prototyping products
  • employ innovative use of different visual and emerging media types across print, screen and packaging
  • develop effective design solutions for specific audiences and learn to apply advanced 2D and 3D digital design technologies
  • specialise in one of four professional communications areas: journalism, marketing communication, corporate and public communication and sports media
  • apply professional judgement and knowledge in adapting marketing communication theories, principles and methodologies across diverse social, cultural and organisational contexts
  • explore narratives that inform, persuade and generate change.

The University of Canberra is located in the suburb of Bruce in the Australian Capital Territory. Surrounded by Lake Ginnindera, the new suburb of Lawson, Radford college and residential housing, regular public buses can drop you right on campus. Open space, natural calm, tall trees and wildlife. Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • Must  provide certified evidence of your current English proficiency level including:  English tests; transcripts and award certificates; and/or a letter from the  institution stating the language of instruction.
  • Must  provide certified evidence of academic transcripts and award  certificates. Transcripts should indicate if the academic requirements of  the course are incomplete /complete or if the award has been conferred.
  • Provide Statements of Employment and a Resume with referee contact details for courses with work experience requirements.
  • Subject descriptions must be provided for International Qualifications and may be requested for Domestic Qualifications if required. Not providing this documentation with your application could delay the outcome- Credit transfer/ advanced standing.
  • Other  qualifications not listed will be considered on an individual basis. This list  provides minimum entry requirements for courses; however, some courses may  have higher entry requirements. If you are unable to meet the above requirements, you may be eligible to access a pathway provided by college.
