Diploma in Social Service Worker

The Social Service Worker diploma is a two-year, 62-credit program that will prepares you to work in social service settings and schools. After you graduate, you will be ready to work in community-based corrections, family support, Indigenous services, mental health, residential care, schools, settlement services, substance use, and women’s services.

Indigenous Focus

The Social Service Worker diploma – Indigenous focus prepares graduates to work from Indigenous perspectives within social service settings and schools in culturally safe ways with Indigenous Peoples. You will learn to work with individuals, families, groups, and communities on issues of concern to Indigenous Peoples, and develop an understanding of the social, cultural, and political context of Indigenous communities.

Abbotsford

The Abbotsford campus is UFV's main campus, located in the third most diverse city in Canada. This campus features classroom and office spaces, a large library, a cafeteria, a non-smoking, four-floor residence with 102 double occupancy suites, a bookstore, a sports centre, and a new 50,000 square foot student centre that integrates student activities and campus life with key academic and administrative offices.

> If your program was less than 8 months
   You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.

> If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years
   We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.
For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.

> If your program was 2 years or more
   We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.

> If you completed more than 1 program
   You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed -
must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: Grade 12 / High School
  • Min GPA: 53.0% Convert grades
