English Language Proficiency

Our English Language Proficiency short courses enable you to improve your English for university study or personal development.

You will develop all your language skills, including pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar, and have the opportunity to develop skills for IELTS.

Classes are small and the teachers are highly qualified and experienced teachers of English.

Academic English is introduced for those students wanting to pathway into further study. You can pathway directly from English Language Proficiency to our Direct Entry English and Foundation programmes, or sit IELTS to gain admission to your degree.

On arrival you will be placed in the course at the right level for you, and your progress will be assessed and monitored regularly to make sure you are meeting your learning goals.

You will study on campus as a Massey University student so you can take advantage of all of the clubs, services and facilities that the university has to offer.

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To enrol in an English Language Proficiency short course, you must be at least 17 years old. If you are not a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, you must apply for the appropriate visa.

You will be required to sit an online English language placement test in your home country to determine the appropriate level of class to support your language development.
