BA with Major Business Communication

The Department of Communication, Popular Culture and Film offers four separate programs of study in Business Communication, Media and Communication Studies, Film Studies, and Popular Culture. A four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours degree, a 4 Year BA with a Major, and a three-year program leading to the BA Pass degree is offered in all four programs. In addition, the Department is involved in programs with community colleges which offer students the opportunity to earn an honours degree in Communication Studies and a college diploma or certificate.

Business Communication is an interdisciplinary program combining the study of communication with the study of some aspects of business. The program aims to equip the student with a sound theoretical basis for analysing and practicing communication within the business environment.

Students admitted to Business Communication may continue in the program upon successful completion of Years 1 and 2 with a minimum 65 percent major average in each year. A student with a major average lower than 65 percent will not be permitted to continue in Business Communication. Students wishing to proceed to Year 4 Honours require a minimum 70 percent major average. Students wishing to proceed to Year 4 with a Major in Business Communication require a minimum 65 percent major average.

Media and Communication Studies is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on the impact of media and communication in the creation of meaning, identity, and social change, emphasizing the study of media content, audiences, and institutions in their political, economic, and social contexts in Canada and elsewhere.

Campus Information

St. Catharines Campus

St. Catharines campus of the Brock University houses around 2,500 students in 8 residence complexes. Also, the institution has a campus in the city named Hamilton in Ontario. It has a gymnasium, board room, instructional resource center, library, large classrooms, modern computer labs, faculty office space, conference facilities, food services, and green spaces.

Hamilton Campus

Brock University also maintains a campus in the city of Hamilton, Ontario. The primary user of this facility is the Faculty of Education, specifically the Teacher Education Department and Graduate Studies in Education and Continuing Education. The Hamilton Campus was officially opened November 2, 2000. It is a campus with computer labs, an Instructional Resource Centre / Library, gymnasium, large classrooms, full and part-time faculty office space, food services, conference facilities, a board room, and green spaces within the courtyards and surrounding lawns of the campus.

If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.

For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.

If your program was 2 years or more

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.

If you completed more than 1 program

  •    You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed -

  • must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length
