BSc - Biological & Biomedical Sciences

This is the study of life, from the fundamental building blocks of our genes to the largest animals that inhabit our planet; how living things work – how they interact with one another and their surroundings, and how they change and evolve; and it involves the application of biomedical science to medical/clinical use.
You will learn how to use analytical and technical procedures to monitor and improve human health and to investigate disease.
You will study the science that is broadly similar to the preclinical component of a medical degree.
You will also learn how to ask questions, make observations, and analyse evidence – in theory work and through practical laboratory sessions – and to present and communicate your findings clearly while developing your computer literacy and research skills.

The main strengths of the Department include Biological Control, Bioinformatics, Immunology, Medical Mycology, Molecular Genetics and Plant Biotechnology and staff have international reputations in these areas. New appointments in the Department have consolidated research strengths in Immunology and Protein Chemistry.
Opportunity to study a Bachelor of Arts subject in first year such as Economics, Spanish or Anthropology. Alternatively students can choose a Bachelor of Science subject.
There is a transfer pathway from 1st year MH201 Science to 2nd year MH208 Biological & Biomedical Sciences for students who have taken Biology, Mathematics and another two subjects. Places are limited and are based on 1st year results and points attained in school leaving examinations.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Higher Secondary School Certificate Grade 12 with a minimum overall result of 75% including an English result of 70% issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or Indian Cert of Secondary Education (ICSE)
Any equivalent Grade 12 All India Secondary School Certificate.
All other Boards require an English result of 75%

Applicants must be over 18 years of age when beginning the degree program

Undergraduate programmes: 6.0 IELTS or equivalent overall score for Science and Engineering programmes 6.5 IELTS or equivalent overall score for all other undergraduate programmes. In programmes where there is currently an IELTS requirement of 6.0, we will require a score of 100 on Duolingo. Where there is an IELTS requirement of 6.5, we will require a score of 110 on Duolingo. Where there is an IELTS requirement of 7.0, we will require a score of 120 on Duolingo.
