Business with Human Resource Management BA(Hons)

People are the most important resource in any organisation. Businesses are eager to recruit talented individuals, and to keep them too. This course enables you to specialise in human resource (HR) management so you can understand the role it plays in business, and how you can play a part in the industry too.

We’ll start by looking at how to manage and develop people in organisations, explore the varied roles of people management specialists and line managers in areas such as people resourcing, employment relations, equality and diversity. You will also look at how training and developing employees can add value to an organisation, how investing in staff in this way builds increased commitment and enhances skills.

How will you learn?
You’ll be given the opportunity to understand the professional skills needed in the HR industry and how to recruit and inspire staff. By looking at the larger picture, you can begin to understand how human resources fit in to the wider business arena. So we’ll look at today’s dynamic business environment to help you put things into context.

We work closely with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and you’ll have the opportunity to achieve a CMI qualification in Management and Leadership through no additional study or assessment.
We’ll give you the opportunity to work with our own HR professionals to create CVs and portfolios, and hone those essential interview skills. Our aim is to help you to become as employable as possible within the HR arena.
The course also gives you the chance to take a placement year working in a business in the UK or overseas. You’ll be able to put the HR theory you’ve learnt into practice, which is exactly what employers are looking for.
Previous students have benefited from placements with organisations such as Majestic Wine, JN Bentley, NHS Commissioning Support Unit and Walker Morris LLP.

What subjects will you cover?
You’ll explore subjects such as Human Resource Management, The Future of Work, Managing People, Leadership Theory and Practice, Understanding Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Development.
