Design Engineering BEng(Hons)

Our practical course has a focus on digital fabrication technologies and helps you become a creative problem-solver, with the ability to generate innovative design solutions.

You’ll study core design and mechanical engineering subjects exploring: CAD, dynamics, control, manufacturing, electronics, electrical machines, mechanics, materials and computing. And you’ll build skills in advanced digital fabrication processes and computer-based tools for design, modelling and simulation.

Learning through design exercises and case studies you’ll work with other engineering specialists on projects based on real-world scenarios, with links to industry. You’ll integrate mechanical, electronic and software design and build the knowledge and skills needed to bring new and innovative products and services to market.

Placements and guest lectures from industry experts provide valuable professional insight and networking opportunities.

Our Design Engineering MEng offers an extra year of study at masters level.

Campus Information

Moulsecoomb campus

Two miles north of Brighton city centre and the seafront, Moulsecoomb is the largest of our four campuses with more than 8,000 students. Moulsecoomb Place is home to more than 160 students, while others live in nearby Varley Park. There are a number of areas of Brighton that are popular with students, just a short walk, cycle or bus ride away. These include Moulsecoomb, Bevendean, Hollingbury, Elm Grove, Hanover and other suburbs that stretch up the hills on either side of the Lewes Road.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

For India

  • We require a Higher Secondary School Certificate/Standard XII with an overall average of 60–65% to include a minimum of five subjects at 40% or higher.
  • Students with relevant diplomas and HNDs may be considered for advanced entry on a case-by-case basis, subject to admissions assessment.

English language requirements
