B.A Honours SOCIOLOGY

Choose Sociology at the University of Westminster and you'll never think about society in the same way again. Studying with us means engaging with a dynamic 21st-century subject and exploring current social issues and debates, using the latest research methods.

Investigating the nature of societal structures and their impact on people's everyday lives and interactions is central to the course. You'll consider questions of how power is exercised and normalised at all levels of society, from the state to individual emotions, through explorations of social class, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, and other factors. You'll gain a sensitive understanding of diversity as well as a keen self-awareness and ability to make sense of your own social location in terms of identities, cultures, beliefs and values.

You'll be taught by active researchers, whose innovative books and articles are helping to set the global sociological agenda. The course makes full use of the amazing resources our central London location provides, from the museums on our doorstep to street-art field trips and the diverse cultures and subcultures that will inform and inspire your own research.

Campus Information

Regent Campus

Our Regent Campus comprises three sites in central London, all within a few minutes' walk of Oxford Street 309 Regent Street – subjects taught at this site include English and Creative Writing, Languages, and History. Little Titchfield Street – our Law courses are taught here. Wells Street – Criminology and Sociology, and Politics and International Relations are taught here.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

We have included typical entry requirements below, but these are simply a guideline. Some courses may also have a specific subject or grade requirements, which will be listed on individual course pages.

For entry into Year 1 of Bachelor's degrees (Level 4), you will typically need to have one of the following:

HSC XII: CBSE, ICSE, Kolkata, or Tamil Nadu boards with an overall average of 70% or above*
HSC XII: West Bengal board with an overall average of 58% or above*
HSC XII: Maharashtra or Gujarat boards with an overall average of 75% or above*
HSC XII: All other state boards with an overall average of 80%+ or above*
a recognized International Foundation course from a UK institution or an Indian institution following a validated UK syllabus. Entry requirements vary but we normally ask for between 60% and 65%

For consideration for entry into Year 2 of Bachelor's degrees (Level 5) you will typically need to have the following:

UK Higher National Diploma (HND) with Distinctions and Merits

Note: If you are studying at one of Westminster partners in India we may have an agreement allowing entry into the second or third year.
