PhD Optical Networks
To conduct research and provide a contribution to knowledge and innovation in areas relevant to Optical Communications and Networks and associated technologies. In particular in Optical and Wireless Network Architectures, Next-Generation Passive Optical networks (NGPONs), MAC protocols, and algorithms for NGPONs, 5G Radio Access Networks, Crosshaul (xhaul) Networks, Software Defined Networks (SDN), and Satellite IP Networks.
Campus Information
College Lane Campus
The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have a First class Honours BEng in Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering, Computer Science or Maths. Exceptional candidates with a 1st Division, 2.1 qualification may be considered. Personal attributes including a drive to conduct research, self-motivation and the ability to work independently and within a team are essential.
