Musculoskeletal Management, MSc in Primary Care

Musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders are a prevalent and major cause of ill health and physical disability in the UK as well as globally. They can reduce quality of life; impacting on family and relationships, as well as limiting capacity to work. This is a growing area of healthcare which takes up 30% of UK GP caseloads.

The Musculoskeletal Management programme will provide medical and health professionals with the knowledge and skills to assess, triage and care for patients with MSK conditions; to apply the clinical theory, practice and associated research in the prevention, assessment and management of MSK conditions within contemporary healthcare. It will enable professionals to commission and respond to evolutionary changes in the structure and provision of health care. It will increase the practitioner’s knowledge of the multidisciplinary team’s role in managing MSK disease and explore new ways of working.

This programme supports the NHS approaches such as Five Year Forward View and MSK strategies to integrate and deliver new sustainable models of care, which promote prevention and health and well-being as well as supporting effective management and self-care. It is delivered by leading medical consultants, therapists and academics.
