Disaster Medicine, MSc

The MSc Disaster Medicine is for healthcare professionals who want to work as part of a disaster response team, not only delivering but planning and co-ordinating healthcare in the challenging environment of disaster and conflict.  It will especially appeal to emergency and urgent care professionals (doctors, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare professionals) who would like to expand the scope of their skills to include disaster response.  It will also appeal to healthcare professionals in other disciplines, who are considering venturing into this exciting and expanding field of Disaster Medicine.

Delivering healthcare to communities affected by disasters, be they natural or man-made, is an aspect of healthcare that is both demanding and immensely rewarding.  It requires specific skills and expertise that would enable healthcare professionals to adapt and respond to the need of the affected communities at a time when they are most vulnerable. Our course will provide participants with the necessary skills to deal with aspects of healthcare delivery in a disaster, from advance planning, to immediate response, to healthcare in the medium-to-long-term.  In addition, it covers the complex logistical, legal and ethical issues, as well as an overview of the principles of disaster management.

The modules on this programme may be subject to change.
