Cancer Biology, MRes

If you wish to follow this route you must initially apply for MSc Cancer Biology and Therapy and successfully complete the first semester modules.

MRes Cancer Biology and Therapy at UCLan aims to provide students with an in depth theoretical and practical knowledge of the biological processes associated with cancer and the development of new therapies.  This course is taught by researchers who have published extensively in the field of cancer biology and who have close research links with Brain Tumour North West and Royal Preston Hospital. 

The course comprises of 3 months of taught lectures, tutorials and lab work followed by a 6 month, full-time, independent laboratory based research project under the supervision of active cancer researchers.  Research themes include: analysis of phytochemicals for cancer treatment; development and characterization of novel drug delivery systems; potential of aspirin analogues in the treatment of glioma; use of aptamers as diagnostic and therapeutic agents for brain tumours; and synthesis of bioactive molecules with anticancer properties.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

55% in bachelor degree

70% in Year 12 English*
Or
70% average grade in Year 11 and Year 12 English provided Year 12 is not below 65%
Or
Standard English language entry requirements – IELTS 6.5 or equivalent

GCSE or O-Level English Grade C - Grade C

A Level English Language - Grade C

TOEFL iBT including Special At Home Edition - 88 (with minimum grades of 21 in each component)

UCLan Test of English Language Level (TELL) - Merit (75%) with no component below pass (65%)

Pearson Test of EnglishAcademic - 61 with minimum of 55 in each component

Specific entry requirements for the course are:

2:2 degree from a UK university or its equivalent in a biological discipline, for example Biochemistry, Physiology, Biomedical Science.

A qualification or experience deemed to be equivalent to the above.

Other Accepted English Language Qualifications:

IELTS at 6.5
TOEFL at 600 (paper) and 250 (CBE) with a TWE of 4
Those applicants seeking entry with appropriate experiences will be required to demonstrate the suitability of this experience both on application and at interview.
