Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours)

The Honours year consists of supervised research and coursework available to suitably qualified graduates of Griffith University and other recognized tertiary institutions.

This program enables students to advance the knowledge and experience acquired at the undergraduate level and prepares them to undertake research work for continued postgraduate studies in this and other universities. It also provides first-level training for those wishing to practice as psychologists in Australia.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have successfully completed all the studies required for the award of a Bachelor's degree which includes a three-year sequence in Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council completed within the last ten years.

To be eligible to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours), students who have completed Bachelor of Psychological Science (1012) or Bachelor of Psychological Science (1312) must meet the following criteria:

  1. Complete the three years of prescribed coursework in Bachelor of Psychological Science (1012) or Bachelor of Psychological Science (1312) within the last ten years.
  2. Achieve a GPA of at least 5.0 for all second and third-year courses.
  3. Achieve a GPA of at least 5.0 in the eight following second and third-year Psychology courses:
    • 2000PSY Experimental Design and Analysis
    • 2006PSY Cognitive Psychology
    • 2007PSY Biological Psychology
    • 2008PSY Social and Cultural Psychology
    • 3011PSY Lifespan Development (offered in 2017) OR 2015PSY Developmental Psychology (offered from 2018)
    • 3003PSY Survey Design and Analysis
    • 3006PSY Psychological Assessment of Individual Differences
    • 3009PSY Abnormal Psychology.
  4. Have no other documented grounds for being deemed ineligible.

Applicants should note that the above criteria represent the minimum requirements. Students in the Bachelor of Psychological Science should note that progression to Honours is competitive and will be determined by order of academic merit and is subject to available supervisory resources.

Applicants from universities other than Griffith will be assessed using those courses completed by the applicant that most closely approximate those listed in criteria 2 and 3 above.

Applicants who fail to meet one or more of the above criteria will be deemed ineligible for entry to the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours).
