Graduate Diploma in Heritage Conservation

This exciting field of study is much more than the simple preservation of existing buildings. Instead, by engaging with history, your role is to provide value to building owners, visitors and cultural bodies, all of which have a shared interest in understanding, adapting and preserving our heritage.

Graduates from architectural, urban planning, archaeological, historical, engineering or related backgrounds, or the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments, can develop their specialist conservation and adaptive reuse skills through this course. We also welcome applicants from other disciplines.

Heritage consultant skills are in demand by government and cultural agencies, development firms, historical societies and architectural and urban planning firms. Graduates may also be employed as social commentators, historians or cultural observers. The dual focus of this program building design and policy formation equips you to enter either area, and there are an increasing number of opportunities with government and councils to work on conservation projects within their electorates.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Admission to this course requires:

a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification; or
completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate certificate with an average mark of at least 70 across all units attempted for the award.

Graduate Diploma students may apply to upgrade to the Masters at the completion of their program (with an average mark of at least 70).
