Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing

Designed for registered nurses, the Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing aims to assist nurses currently working in the emergency environment. Develop the specialist knowledge and skills to work closely with patients and their families who are confronted with trauma, accidents or acute and unexpected illnesses as you become a clinical leader.

Graduate Certificate in Emergency Nursing (24 credit points)
Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing (48 credit points)
Master of Emergency Nursing (60 credit points)
Completion of the Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing can be used as credit towards the Master of Emergency Nursing or a pathway into the Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner).

Career Pathways
Graduates of this course will be recognised as having advanced knowledge relevant to emergency nursing. Nursing practice in emergency departments may range from life-saving interventions to providing health promotion and injury prevention.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

A successful applicant for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing will hold

(a) a pre-registration nursing degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification; or 
(b) an embedded graduate certificate in this discipline from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification. 
In exceptional circumstances the dean may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in the opinion of the School, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.

In addition, the applicant is required to be a registered nurse in Australia or overseas and satisfy the English language proficiency requirements .

Domestic applicants are required to have a minimum of one year's experience as a registered nurse, be working in emergency nursing and provide a statement of support from their supervisor or manager in order to undertake the required clinical assessments.

International applicants are required to have a minimum of one year's experience in emergency nursing and have a choice of providing a statement of support from their supervisor if they wish to undertake the required clinical assessments in their home country, or else the clinical assessments can be undertaken at the Sydney Nursing School under simulated conditions.

TOEFL - IBT score - A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 23 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 25 in Writing

IELTS score - A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 7.0 in each band

TOEFL - PBT score - A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing

Pearsons Test of English - A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
