Economics is the study of how economic units such as households, firms, and governments make decisions in the face of limited resources to satisfy their needs. It helps one understand the functioning of the entire economy. The Economics programme at Covenant University is the leading programme in West Africa and one of the best in Africa going by the recent Times Higher Education Ranking placing the Economics and Business programme in the top 500 globally. The programme covers all major aspects of economics including Financial Economics, Development Economics, Monetary Economics, International Economics, Labour Economics, and Energy Economics, among others.

College of Business and Social Sciences
The College is composed of six (6) Departments and ten (10) programmes. The Departments are Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Management, Economics, Mass Communication and Sociology. The Department of Accounting runs programme in Accounting, the Department of Banking and Finance runs programme in Banking and Finance, the Department of Business Management offers programmes in Business Administration, Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship. The Department of Economics runs progrmmes in Economics, Demography and Social Statistics. The Department of Mass Communication runs programme in Mass Communication while the Department of Sociology runs programme in Sociology. All the programmes are accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and relevant professional bodies.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
The minimum entry requirements for admission into the Department of Economics and Development Studies are credit level passes in five (5) subjects at the WASSCE/GCE, Pearson’s A-Levels/or its equivalent, obtained in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Economics, any other two Subjects.
