Music (Higher National Diploma)
Our HND program makes up the first two years of a full Honours degree in music offered at Edinburgh College. Students may leave after the first year with an HNC, after two years with an HND, and after three years with a BMus Honours degree. Our HND is awarded by the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority).
We welcome applicants from all musical backgrounds and disciplines, including classical, popular, traditional, and jazz. HN students receive twenty hours of instrumental, vocal, or composition lessons over the course of each academic year. A range of classes and activities supports the individual lessons; these depend on students’ first study instruments and interests.
Campus Information
Milton Road Campus
The Milton Road Campus is based in the East of Edinburgh near the City Bypass. This campus provides innovative and purpose-built facilities that deliver modern educational qualifications and skills. Our CRE:8 centre has industry standard equipment and facilities for musicians, sound engineers and TV producers. These include a 96 seat auditorium (suitable for music performances, film and TV viewings), film studios, music recording studios, music rehearsal spaces and AVID editing suites for TV production. One of our training restaurants, eh15 is situated at Milton Road and provides not only a first-class training centre but also a tremendous place to dine, with views of the City. The students prepare and serve the best in local, fresh produce, under the close supervision of the restaurant manager and head chef. The main gym and spa facilities of the college are to be found in the Club. Students can take advantage of discounted rates to indulge in facilities designed to enhance health, fitness and wellbeing. The gym is equipped with the latest in resistance training machines and cardio equipment. There are group classes taught by our motivating instructors. Bliss is based in the exclusive beauty rooms beside the nail bar, where students can treat their hands, nails and feet to a lovely makeover.
Sighthill Campus
Our Sighthill campus is located in the West of Edinburgh. Sighthill celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2015 and has been continually improved over that time to provide a range of excellent facilities for students. As well as being an excellent centre for learning, the campus also boasts a centre for sport and exercise which, as well as providing an outstanding training facility for students, is available for staff and students to use. There's a range of clubs you can join, from running to rugby, or you can jump at the chance to form your own. There are a library and learning centre, which can be used in class groups or on your own and we offer additional support to those who need it. The Music Box is the college's state-of-the-art music centre. Acoustically tuned and kitted out to industry-standard specifications, the centre offers excellent practice, recording and performance facilities to musicians and performers, and is also available to hire for members of the public. Students and staff can relax between classes in the Atrium and enjoy a coffee, or grab some lunch in the refectory, where a range of hot and cold food and drinks are available.
