Interior Design MA

Our MA Interior Design course enables you to develop an individual approach to spatial design within a stimulating, creative and supportive environment. 

We aim to produce better designers, who are better at complex design decisions, who are sensitive and ambitious practitioners able to work with an open mind.

At UCA we are committed to research-led practice. Designing through a process of experimental 1:1 prototyping, you will be expected to demonstrate expert knowledge in your chosen field of interest and mastery of your designed outcomes. Finally you will design, construct and exhibit full scale work that is a unique expression of the expertise you've developed with us. 

This degree can be a launchpad to potential higher level interior design careers within an interdisciplinary field. Specialist areas you might choose to focus on in your projects include interaction design, VR, immersive events, retail or specialist fabrication. You can work with interesting heritage and sustainability questions, engaging with both contemporary technology and traditional craft, digital and ‘real’ space.

You will be taught through one-to-one tuition, seminars and self-directed study in designated studio space, engaging with academics with expert research intelligence. There are regular reviews with visiting critics from across relevant industry sectors and international study visits.

Students will work with expert technical staff in specialist workshops, committed library and learning staff and a careers team to support access to professional experience.

Through a challenging journey improving research, conceptual, technical and communication skills, with excellent self management, our graduates are well prepared to enter a global market.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Academic requirements:
For our International Foundation in Art, Design and Media, we usually require that you have:
Indian HSC/Standard XII with an overall average of 50% or higher (all boards including CBSE and CISCE).
For our Bachelor's courses, we usually require that you have: 
Indian HSC/Standard XII with an overall average of 60.
For our Master's courses, we usually require that you have: 
Successful completion of your Bachelor's degree from a recognised university
OR
For the Master of Architecture (MArch), we require the equivalent of a UK 2:1 Honours degree in Architecture. The exact grade required will be confirmed at the time of application
 
Indian Standard XII from CBSE or ISC national boards:
60% or above for English for Creative Arts
65% or above for GDAD, UCAIC UG Stage 0
70% or above for undergraduate, UCAIC PG Stage 0 and postgraduate direct entry
75% or above for MBA
 
When you apply for a student route visa, you need to take a test recognised by the Home Office, to prove your English language ability – this is called a Secure English Language Test.
 
The SELT is only valid for two years, so if you have taken it before you applied to UCA, please make sure it is still in date.
 
If you need a Tier 4 visa, you do not need to take a SELT if one of the following applies:
 
you have taken one of the accepted tests listed below within two years of your start date.
you are a national of a majority English speaking country, as defined by the UKVI, and have taken your academic qualifications in that country.
You have successfully completed a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent), or 2 years' degree study from a recognised university (according to UK ENIC) in one of the majority English speaking countries, as defined by the UKVI, within the last two years.
You have successfully completed a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent), or 2 years' degree study from a recognised university (according to UK ENIC), where the Method of Instruction was entirely in English (teaching and assessment), subject to UCA approval.
