New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) - Art and Design

This programme is ideal if you want to go on to higher-level study in art and design. It's perfect for people that have completed secondary school, or have not completed secondary school and require University entrance qualifications, or those looking for a career in the art and design pathway.

This Certificate starts with a base in Identity and Communication, then starts to build your art and design knowledge, in both individual work and collaborative projects.

PSW Opportunity

Level 7 (Bachelor’s degree)

  • Duration: Equal to length of study (typically up to 3 years)
  • Requirement: minimum 30 weeks full time study in NZ

Level 7 (Graduate Diploma)
Eligible for PSWV
Conditions:

  • Must also hold a Bachelor’s degree (NZ or overseas)
  • Duration: Up to length of study (typically 1 year)

Level 8 (Postgraduate Diploma)

  • Duration: Equal to length of study, OR
  • Up to 3 years in some cases (if part of higher qualification pathway)

Level 9 and 10 (Master’s degree and Doctoral degree)

  • Duration: 3 years
  • Condition: Must study at least 30 weeks in New Zealand

- Most eligible international students can work up to 25 hours per week during study and full-time during scheduled breaks, only if their student visa includes work rights.

- Foundation, pathway and short courses have different rules.

- Not allowed for part time students.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

For this programme, you will need the following:

  1. A minimum of 4 years’ secondary education;
  2. Be 16 years old by the time the programme starts;
  3. A minimum total of 40 NCEA credits at level 2 in four subjects, including:
    - A minimum of 8 English credits at level 2 or higher;
    - University Entrance numeracy (or equivalent);

If you haven't met the above NCEA requirements, you'll need one of the following:

  • A relevant qualification at Level 3 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework or equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate or Cambridge), or;
  • The New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3), or;
  • After you have submitted your application to study at Unitec, you may be asked to attend a skills review session to assess your literacy and numeracy levels. This helps us to enrol you in the best programme and courses for your career pathway.
