What you'll cover in this course

Year One - Your first year will cover the foundational skills of software engineering and AI, including an introduction to computer graphics and practical mathematical skills. You’ll develop an understanding of basic knowledge representation, problem solving techniques and architectures used to build intelligent systems.

Year Two - Delve deeper into the world of software engineering with an intro to data science and a focus on the applications of AI. You’ll extend the statistical and mathematical concepts covered in year 1, while discovering machine learning principles and exploring the vital field of human-centred design.

Year Three - Expand your technical knowledge and round out your skill set with a focus on data mining, visualisation and creative enterprise. In your final semester you’ll explore intuitive approaches to AI, with advanced tech-work integrated learning culminating in the production of an industry-standard capstone project.

  • Duration: Equal to length of study (typically up to 3 years)
  • Requirement: minimum 30 weeks full time study in NZ

Level 7 (Graduate Diploma)

Conditions:

  • Must also hold a Bachelor’s degree (NZ or overseas)
  • Duration: Up to length of study (typically 1 year)

Level 8 (Postgraduate Diploma)

  • Duration: Equal to length of study, OR
  • Up to 3 years in some cases (if part of higher qualification pathway)

Level 9 and 10 (Master’s degree and Doctoral degree)

  • Duration: 3 years
  • Condition: Must study at least 30 weeks in New Zealand

- Most eligible international students can work up to 25 hours per week during study and full-time during scheduled breaks, only if their student visa includes work rights.

- Foundation, pathway and short courses have different rules.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Admission Requirements:

  • Minimum qualification of NCEA University Entrance or equivalents, such as CIE or IB University Entrance, or, level 4 or higher Qualification from a related discipline.

If English is not your first language, you may be required to provide satisfactory evidence of your proficiency in English in the form of a recent IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score, TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score or a Pearson’s Test of English (PTE) from an accredited organisation.

If you are an international student, you'll need to prove you have sufficient English language skills in order to complete this course. We'll be looking for Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 (minimum) with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent qualification if English is not your first language.
