Skills and Knowledge for tomorrow’s business world
NMIT have been offering a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) since 1993. The current qualification, remodelled in 2019, builds upon years of successful delivery and ongoing industry engagement in response to the ever changing business environment. We are committed to ensuring our Bachelor of Commerce remains applied and relevant to the needs of the modern business, with regular updates to learning resources to reflect the current and future business environment.
The programme takes the opportunity to employ a range of applied learning activities e.g. project/problem-based learning, simulated business scenarios, flipped learning and case studies. This ensures our learners are ready to hit the ground running when they graduate.
Our courses are endorsed by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) meaning graduates meet the education requirements for provisional membership to these bodies and further training for certifications in chartered accountancy.
Specialise in accounting, management or marketing with electives in law, human resource management, logistics, international business, and more.
In addition to the specialist skills and knowledge students will develop during the programme, students will gain a range of professional skills, including:
- effective communication
- managing yourself and working collaboratively
- problem solving using creative and innovative thinking
- building and developing business relationships
- professional and ethical behaviour
You will gain these skills along with business knowledge in your chosen area of interest and have the opportunity to practise in real-life scenarios in a safe environment.
Aims of the programme
Graduates of the BCom programme will have the personal attributes, specialist knowledge and professional skills necessary to make an immediate and valuable contribution in demanding and evolving business environments whether locally, nationally or internationally.
The programme offers grounding in research practice and thinking, and provides for the acquisition of practical research skills enabling students to undertake directed research at an undergraduate level and apply these work ready skills in their professional practice.
The BCom programme aims to provide opportunities for students to further develop their abilities to critically evaluate and analyse data and qualitative information and to identify, implement and promote decision making that is innovative and value adding for their enterprise.
