Bachelor's Degree in Peace Studies

Students will consider problems of war, injustice, genocide and violence in order to find solutions. The peace and justice studies program is flexible and allows you to design a program of study that will deepen your understanding of the issues that concern you. You will learn about strategies that people have used to fight for peace, justice and human rights. The peace and justice studies major is interdisciplinary and includes courses in political science, sociology, history, anthropology, psychology and philosophy. As a peace studies major, you will examine: arms races and war;  economic, political and social justice; conflict creation, management and resolution; nonviolent philosophies and strategies of resistance; and world community and world government. Manhattan College has one of the oldest peace and justice studies programs in the United States. The first course was offered in 1966, and the major was established in 1971. With such a rich history, the College is host to many major social justice events, such as the Human Rights Film Festival and esteemed speakers.
