New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing

The course is taught in two blocks of 30 weeks each and each block has a 50/50 split between theory and practical skills. The practical components are in real-world situations where students gain supported clinical experience in a variety of healthcare settings, including learning about specialist care topics such as Acute Care, Mental Health and Addictions, and Rehabilitation.

On successful completion of the programme, graduates will be eligible to apply to Nursing Council of NZ to sit the NCNZ State Exam and register as a qualified Enrolled Nurse. Enrolled Nurses practice under the direction and delegation of a registered nurse in a variety of health care settings such as hospitals, medical centres, aged care facilities and in the community.

Job Opportunity Potential

Enrolled nurses work as a vital part of the health care team in a range of acute health care settings, such as hospitals, community services, and medical centres, or in aged care settings. Enrolled Nurses can have a variety of roles from general nursing through to specialised roles working in collaboration with Registered Nurses (who retain further responsibility for critical thinking and clinical decision making). 

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

India 60% average across 4 academic subjects (excluding Hindi or local language). English mark should be a minimum of 60%

  • IELTS test - Academic score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6.5
  • TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 590 (with an essay score 5.5 TWE
  • TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) - Score of 79 (with a writing score of 21)
  • Cambridge English Examination - C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176.  No less than 169 in each skill
  • OET - Minimum of Grade C+ or 300 in all sub-tests
  • NZCEL - a) Expiring Level, b) Current: a) Level 5 (Academic) or (Professional), b) Level 5
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score minimum of 58 in each band, in one sitting, with no band score lower than 58.
  • Language Cert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS and no less than Pass in each skill or C2 Mastery IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
  • Trinity ISE – ISE III with no less than pass in any band
  • The English language requirements for this programme are higher than the minimum set by NZQA, therefore, applicants who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance may be required to provide evidence of English language skills.
