DIPLOMA OF BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION (BUILDING)
The building and construction industry is constantly growing so what better time to explore a career as a builder or building manager.
A Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) will give you the training you need to work on the construction of low to medium rise residential and commercial buildings. You will learn how to supervise construction work, apply structural principles to building work, evaluate tender documentation, hire contractors and produce cost estimations for building and construction projects.
This qualification is designed to meet the needs of builders, including selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with clients.
The builder may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the State or Territory. Builder licensing varies across States and Territories and additional requirements to attainment of this qualification may be required.
The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry.
The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all included units of competency to be delivered in this context.
Licensing and Regulatory Requirements:
Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement. Occupational licenses are required nationally.
Additional units of competency may be required to meet builder registration requirements in various States and Territories.
Work Placement Requirements:
Students will be required to complete 400 hours of work placement during the course within the industry. Students will be required to complete a logbook for record of the work placement so they can practice their skills and embed the knowledge they have learned during the course.
It is recommended that students seek out industry related work to assist them to complete this work placement requirement to successful complete this course.
