MSc Superyacht Design
Do you have a passion for naval architecture and dream of designing the next generation of superyachts? Solent’s unique superyacht design master’s program – the only one of its kind the UK – blends naval architecture and structural design with management skills to help provide you with essential career-boosting skills.
The course concentrates on sailing and motor yachts over 24 meters in length and is intended not just for naval architects and students of yacht design, but also now provides suitably qualified marine engineers and certified deck officers with experience of operating superyachts the opportunity to develop their qualifications, where traditionally the career path for yacht officers has not enabled them to progress onto pure naval architecture degrees. The blend of naval architecture (for which sea-going officers will have underpinning knowledge), management and structural design will enable students from these backgrounds to develop their knowledge and understanding, and introduce new and relevant material and subjects for master’s level study.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
As a general guide, we look for qualifications that are equivalent to the British high school A-levels. A portfolio is also required for most of our art and design courses.
To be considered for entry to a foundation year (year 0 of a foundation year), students should hold the Standard XII with 50% or above.
For postgraduate courses, we look for qualifications that are equivalent to the British bachelor's degree. Students should hold a bachelor's degree, minimum 2nd division.
Foundation year:
IELTS 5.5 overall with a minimum of 5.0 in each individual component
TOEFL IBT 71 with a minimum of 19 in in each individual component- TOEFL is only valid for EU students
or equivalent.
Undergraduate:
IELTS minimum 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component
TOEFL IBT minimum 80 with a minimum of 19 in each individual component
or equivalent.
Postgraduate:
IELTS minimum 6.5 overall with minimum of 6.0 in writing and a minimum of 5.5 in reading, listening and speaking
TOEFL IBT 92 with minimum of 22 in writing and a minimum of 19 in reading, listening and speaking
or equivalent.
