Mathematics with Computing BSc

Overview
Get the knowledge essential to a career in IT

Computing and mathematics have a lot in common, making this combined degree the perfect first step to a career in the field. You’ll learn to develop and communicate strategies and algorithms specific to different problems. Learning through workshops and individually will give you the opportunity to approach tasks from different angles while developing your collaborative and communication skills.

You’ll also spend plenty of time in a lab setting where you’ll be taught to program and use software to help with the understanding of theory. First-year modules and lectures will be complimented with small group workshops supported by second and third year students.

Mathematics and computing degrees equip students with a range of desirable and transferable skills. These include logic, analytics, and problem-solving, which are fundamental to roles in commerce, economics, finance, accounting, and even law.

The BSc course is accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications.

Learn to apply your new skills
You’ll have plenty of opportunities to practice your new skills. There’s an option to partake in a work placement and to get involved in outreach activities, like the SMASHFest event.

We also run the ‘Engaging with Maths’ sessions, where visiting lecturers, economists, financial consultants, and other professionals come in to talk about their careers. Past students have found these sessions invaluable as they provide insight into the many different career paths available out there.

Get the support you need
Our personalised approach gives you the support you need to succeed as a student. While you're an undergraduate or foundation year student, you’ll have a Personal Tutor directly related to your course. If you need support with academic writing, numeracy and library skills, we’ll be sure to provide it. Our Student Learning and Graduate Academic Assistants have studied your subject and can support you based on their own experience.
