Why study law with us

You’ll learn the principles of the English legal system, and gain reflection through social, political, economic, ethical and historical perspectives. You’ll also build a range of transferable skills, including abstract thinking and problem solving, that will allow you to prepare practically as well as academically for a successful legal career.

Our School of Law is leading pioneering research across key legal disciplines including international criminal law, and immigration with a focus on human rights. You’ll get access to plenty of support from tutors who bring global experience and a diverse range of academic interests that will help shape your studies and expertise.

Build your hands-on experience while developing your legal skills
After you’ve completed your year one modules, you’ll have the option to transfer to year two of the LLB, which, on completion will lead to the academic and vocational training required to become a fully qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.

You’ll have use of original council chambers featuring a judge's bench and public gallery for mooting and lectures.

Work-based and skills-based modules will allow you to gain practical, hands-on experience, and employability skills in both legal and non-legal environments.

You’ll get plenty of support from tutors who are highly trained solicitors and barristers that bring vast experience in a variety of legal settings to help shape your studies and enhance your areas of interest and expertise.

Get the support you need to succeed
Our personalised approach gives you the support you need to succeed as a student. While you are an undergraduate or foundation year student, you’ll have a Personal Tutor directly related to your course. If you need support with academic writing, numeracy and library skills, we’ll be sure to provide it. Our Student Learning and Graduate Academic Assistants have studied your subject and can support you based on their own experience.

Highly valued by employers, a BA in law is transferable to a wide range of sectors, which can lead to exciting career opportunities in government, politics, the civil service, business, and management. Our graduates now work for a wide range of prestigious legal and non-legal organisations. If your ambition is to pursue a career as a lawyer or a barrister, you’ll have the option to take a Graduate Diploma in Law (CPE).
