Northumbria University has an established reputation for excellence and innovation in nursing education. We work closely with our NHS, health and social care partners to deliver this pre-registration BSc (Hons) Nursing Science/Registered Nurse (Adult).
The three-year full-time pre-registration programme meets the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) current standards for pre-registration nursing programmes (NMC 2018). These standards are grouped under seven platforms, which outline the expectations of a registered nurse at the start of their career. The NMC (2018) standards also seek to enhance graduate nurse education and drive forward changes in the profession.
The BSc (Hons) Nursing Science/Registered Nurse (Adult) also meets the requirements of a Northumbria University award, which are that as a student of Northumbria University you will:

Develop comprehensive nursing abilities to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised, holistic, evidence-based nursing care.

Use lifelong learning and research skills to inform practice and facilitate ongoing continuing professional development.
Demonstrate organisational, management and leadership skills in the delivery of high-quality nursing care.
Your programme integrates nursing theory and nursing practice with theory and simulated learning delivered at our Coach Lane Campus and practice learning in a range of healthcare environments in and around the cities of Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland.
You will become an accountable professional as you work towards NMC registration and the award of a BSc (Hons) Nursing Science/Registered Nurse (Adult). The programme is designed to equip you to be a safe, effective, skilled and knowledgeable nurse. It will allow your compassion to thrive within an evidence-based approach and it will enable you to make a genuine impact on the health and wellbeing on the people, of all ages, in your care.
