Water, Waste and Environmental Engineering, MSc
This Master’s in Water, Waste and Environmental Engineering combines solid waste management, contaminated land treatment and GIS with management of the earth's resources.
This MSc course is designed for graduates from a wide range of environmental engineering backgrounds who want to apply new sustainable strategies to increasingly complex problems. We cover the technical aspects of natural and engineering environmental systems.
Our broad approach combines science, public health and engineering. You'll develop your engineering skills and learn to design, develop and apply concepts for water and waste, considering environmental sensitivity. You will also consider planning, modelling, design, construction, operation, maintenance and control of engineered and natural water and earth resources.
Students of our MSc Water, Waste and Environmental Engineering gain the skills for career progression in areas such as desalination and water reuse, water resource engineering, hydraulics, hydrology, and environmental remediation.

Job Opportunity Potential
What sort of careers do graduates pursue?
Graduates will find employment opportunities as engineers, scientist and technical managers in the private sector (engineering design firms, engineering consultancy, project management, risk management and waste management), in the public sector (environmental protection engineering, regulations and standards, local government) and in non-governmental sectors (NGOs, environmental advocacy).
You may also wish to pursue further qualifications such as a PhD to become even more specialised.
Employers of environmental engineers include engineering consultancies (such as AECOM, Atkins, Mott MacDonald Group, Hyder), government agencies (such as Environment Agency, Scottish Environment Protection Agency) and NGOs (such as Oxfam, Engineers without Boarders, Water Aid).
Do you provide employability services?
We have a team dedicated to enhancing student employment outcomes. Our Employer Partnerships Manager develops relationships with companies to provide employment opportunities.
Other members of the team help you to develop your knowledge of job markets, produce effective CVs, cover letters and application forms, and prepare for job applications and interviews.
