Mechanical Engineering with Biomechanics M.Eng
Course description
This degree is for students who want a core mechanical engineering curriculum but have an interest in life sciences and non-conventional engineering problems.
You'll learn how to apply mechanical engineering concepts to traditional engineering problems, and then explore how the same principles can be applied to a more challenging and fascinating problem: the human body.
This degree follows the same syllabus as the MEng Mechanical Engineering for the first two years but in years three and four you'll specialise in biomechanics through taught modules and an individual investigative project. You'll focus on a real-life challenge in a group design project and there are opportunities to work on projects with real clients.
The course has been developed to enhance your employability. You'll develop the technical skills required by the biomedical and healthcare industries and learn about the regulations for biomedical devices. Your grounding in core engineering science will also be attractive to employers in more traditional mechanical engineering routes.
This is a practical course: our students learn by doing. You'll apply what you've learnt in the lecture theatre to engineering problems and experiments. You'll have the chance to manufacture and prototype your designs. You'll also develop the transferable skills employers look for, such as communication, project management and time management skills.
All our students get involved in week-long projects that develop the skills you'll need as a successful engineer. There's the Global Engineering Challenge in your first year, where you'll find creative solutions to real-world problems with engineers of different disciplines, and Engineering You're Hired! during your second year.
