MEng/BEng (Hons) Civil and Structural Engineering

With the ever-increasing global population and effects of global warming, there is a significant and foreseeable demand on the construction industry to build more sustainably efficient structures. Structural Engineers are being tasked with designing more complex structures whilst minimising the use of construction materials.

Structural Engineers are involved with shaping the future of our cities and responsible for designing new and exciting buildings using ever-evolving technology and materials.

The Institution of Structural Engineers is the world’s largest membership organisation dedicated to the art and science of structural engineering.

This professionally accredited course enables you to achieve a degree level qualification in three years of successful full-time study. The course partially satisfies the educational base for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and fully satisfies the educational base for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status. We aim to ensure that graduates are ready to take a pivotal role in the civil or structural engineering profession.

Coventry University aims to offer a very practical civil engineering courses with a significant amount of embedded laboratory work.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Business Courses CU + CULC:

For general Business courses, students must achieve an overall score of 60% minimum in the Standard XII examination (no specific subject requirements).

For Finance, Economics and Accountancy courses – students must achieve an overall score of 60% minimum in the Standard XII examination (with 60% in Maths OR Accountancy OR Economics).

EC FACULTY:

Students must achieve an overall score of 60% minimum in the Standard XII examination. With 65% in Maths AND 65% achieved in another key subject relevant to the course applied for.

Note specific subject requirements for EC courses below.

Core Engineering courses:

Must have 65% in Maths AND 65% in one from Physics/ Chemistry/ Electronics/ Engineering/ Further Mathematics/ Computer Science/ Computing/ Design Tech.

IT and Computing related courses:

Must have 65% in Maths AND 65% in one from Physics/ Computer Science/IT/ Computing/Design Technology.

Technology Engineering related courses:

Must have 65% in Maths AND 65% in one from Design Technology/Electronics

Electrical Engineering related courses:

Must have 65% in Maths AND 65% in one from Physics/Chemistry/ Electronics/ Engineering/ Further Mathematics/ Computer Science/Computing/ Design Technology

OR

60% overall achieved in a 3 or 4 years Engineering or Technology Diploma.

HLS courses

Students must achieve an overall score of 60% minimum in the Standard XII examination with a minimum of 65% in the key relevant subject; i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Physics

60% in Standard XII English language from certain examination boards only (Central boards, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Uttarakhand)

OR

IELTS 6.0 overall with no component lower than 5.5 (except where course requirements are higher) and other acceptable SELT tests such as the Pearson Test of English (PTE).

Students not meeting the above can take the Coventry University English Test.
