BA (Hons) Criminology (with Foundation Year)

Aimed at students looking to work in the criminal justice sector or associated fields, this course benefits from both a theoretical basis as well as a vocational and applied nature. This will enable you to develop a comprehensive understanding of criminology and apply this to current socio-economic policies and conditions.

You will learn through a variety of group sessions, workshops, digital media and a wide range of learning resources, completing a dissertation in your final year or a research project and research methods module. In addition to your knowledge of criminology, you will gain a wide range of analytical, research, problem-solving and communication skills, which are in high demand by employers. As we specialise in teaching, with a focus on problem solving and weighing up arguments, you’ll develop a formidable range of essential skills that can make all the difference when starting your career. The University of Law was awarded a silver rating in the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) in June 2019. We were found to deliver high quality teaching, learning and outcomes for our students and consistently exceed rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education.

The first year is a Foundation year which students study alongside our LLB (Law) students and is taught by our law tutors. This year focuses on developing the key skills required to undertake degree level study. The subsequent three years then follow our full-time BA (Hons) Criminology degree course.
