MA New Irish

You are welcome to apply for the MA in Modern Irish, which is achieved on a formal teaching basis as well as completing a thesis. During this course, the Irish language, culture and literature are studied in detail. Students can study these areas in a comprehensive and balanced way, or if they prefer, special attention can be given to language and culture or literature. The language offers modules on a wide range of subjects, and care is taken of both contemporary literature and historical literature. Staff have a diverse range of expertise in the courses taught on the teaching program.

The MA sa Nua-Ghaeilge is for graduates of Modern Irish and graduates of cognate disciplines. It aims to promote and preserve the Irish language, literature and culture, and emphasise their importance for Irish society and European identity. It prepares students for a broad range of career paths, including education in Ireland and abroad, public service, editing and publishing, and further academic research. Students develop communicative, analytical and research skills throughout the programme. They will develop advanced linguistic skills in Irish and deepen their knowledge of Irish-language literature, culture and history.
