BA in Photographic Media

The BA in Photographic Media prepares graduates to work in the fast-paced and innovative industry of commercial photography and related visual fields or go on to further study. The emphasis of this highly respected programme leans towards a more commercial approach to photography and image-making; the programme is based around a professional approach allied to analytical skills.

Our aim is to equip our image-makers with the necessary skills and understanding required to compete with the artistic and creative demands of a competitive commercial industry. Creating work and content across different platforms including; photo books, website and video are just some of the beneficial aspects of this programme with an emphasis on business and professional practice in the final year of the degree and the experience of exhibiting their work both on- and off-campus.

You will gain a firm understanding of the commercial photographic industry as well as the ongoing technological developments within the sector.
You will learn from an industry-recognised team of tutors with over 18 years of experience in providing superior photographic education and training.
You will build a strong portfolio of your work including self-published books and website which can be showcased to potential employers or used to gain entry to further study. 
You will gain the opportunity to join the ranks of multiple award-winning Griffith students with an already enviable reputation in the Irish photographic industry.
You will have the option to further your studies in visual media with progression to the final year of our BA (Hons) in Communications and Media Production.

Access to a suite of industry-standard equipment for loan including; both Canon and Nikon kit, a number of full-frame DSLR’s, two large-format professional Stylus Pro 4900 Epson printers and a professional Flextight scanner.

Experience working on industry-focused/client-driven assignment briefs.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Leaving Certificate
 
2 H5 and 4 O6/H7 grades, to include a language (English, Irish or another language) and Maths.
 
QQI Level 5 Award
 
A minimum Full QQI Level 5 Award with 3 Distinctions and a Pass or higher in all other remaining subjects.
