Interpreting and Translation, MA

Have you always wanted to be a conference interpreter? Interested in business interpreting? Maybe you’re looking for the next step in your languages career?

Taught by high-level, experienced interpreters and translators who are professionally active, this course will prepare you for a rewarding and exciting career in the language services industry. Indeed, many of our students enter the industry immediately following their graduation.

The programme of study is practical and varied. We use a range of techniques and modules (including our renowned multilingual mock conferences) to provide you with a learning experience which is both stimulating and professionally realistic. Interpreter training takes place in either of our two conference interpreting suites. You will benefit from using two different simultaneous interpreting systems which are both commonly used at international conferences. In translation modules, you will learn the fundamentals of theory and practice alongside the use of the latest tools and technologies.

The course is enhanced by our longstanding links with the relevant professional bodies and language service providers both in the UK and abroad.

Campus Information

Preston

There are a variety of different ways you can access our Preston city campus, whether by rail, road or air. Preston is well served by the M6 motorway both north and south and excellent cross country rail links. There are also two major international airports in Manchester and Liverpool John Lennon.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

55% in bachelor degree

70% in Year 12 English*
Or
70% average grade in Year 11 and Year 12 English provided Year 12 is not below 65%
Or
Standard English language entry requirements – IELTS 6.5 or equivalent

GCSE or O-Level English Grade C - Grade C

A Level English Language - Grade C

TOEFL iBT including Special At Home Edition - 88 (with minimum grades of 21 in each component)

UCLan Test of English Language Level (TELL) - Merit (75%) with no component below pass (65%)

Pearson Test of EnglishAcademic - 61 with minimum of 55 in each component

Degree at 2:2, IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in writing or equivalent.
