Utilising the expertise of our expanded Scriptwriting team the course builds on the skill base and reputation of our established undergraduate course and boasts improved facilities as a result of the move to our £15 Million Media Factory development with state-of-the-art facilities.

The course offers an in-depth knowledge of writing for radio, television, film and stage with emphasis on current industry practice and employability, equipping students with the most appropriate practice skills. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the writing of a full length feature film that is actually produced. Students will also be contenders for the new Matt Greenhalgh Award. The course is ideally located with access to local radio and the North West’s vibrant live grassroots theatre and new BBC production base.

There are a variety of different ways you can access our Preston city campus, whether by rail, road or air. Preston is well served by the M6 motorway both north and south and excellent cross country rail links. There are also two major international airports in Manchester and Liverpool John Lennon.

PSW Opportunity

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

55% in bachelor degree

70% in Year 12 English*
Or
70% average grade in Year 11 and Year 12 English provided Year 12 is not below 65%
Or
Standard English language entry requirements – IELTS 6.5 or equivalent

GCSE or O-Level English Grade C - Grade C

A Level English Language - Grade C

TOEFL iBT including Special At Home Edition - 88 (with minimum grades of 21 in each component)

UCLan Test of English Language Level (TELL) - Merit (75%) with no component below pass (65%)

Pearson Test of EnglishAcademic - 61 with minimum of 55 in each component

The normal entry requirements are: A good first degree (2:2 or above)

Candidates without the above qualifications, or qualifications in other subject areas, will be considered provided that there is firm evidence of experience and commitment to at least one of the main areas of practical study (film/video making, Film and TV Screenwriting, digital imaging work etc). Demonstrable proof of writing skill, ability, or potential, eg sample scripts.

At interview a portfolio of previous work in a relevant area will be requested. Applications from mature candidates will be welcome.
